What We Offer

Below are some of the ways we can support your child's learning. If you are looking for a content area not listed below, just reach out!

General Reading Tutoring

Being able to sound out words is just half of the battle! Comprehension is another critical component of learning to read.  With general reading tutoring, our teachers align their instructional goals to Common Core or other specified program  standards to further develop students' comprehension skills. Possible topics include critical thinking and analysis of texts, writing in response to texts, and test taking strategies.

Specialized Literacy Tutoring

We are trained in the Orton-Gillingham approach and other research-based interventions aligned with the science of reading. We specialize in working with students with dyslexia, dysgraphia, receptive and expressive language disorders, ADHD, and other learning differences.  Our approach emphasizes multisensory phonics instruction that is cumulative and sequential in order to build up students' confidence as readers, spellers, and writers. We will work with you to develop the approach that will best suit the needs of your child!

Diagnostic Literacy Assessments and Reports

We provide initial literacy assessments to identify your child’s strengths and areas of need. Early reading assessments include phonological awareness, letter recognition, decoding and spelling, reading fluency, and other foundational skills. Assessment reports will highlight early indicators of dyslexia or other reading difficulties. We also conduct assessments based on Common Core Standards at various grade levels. SparkEd specialized reading tutoring always begins with a comprehensive diagnostic assessment and report. Additionally, you can schedule this assessment independently to be shared with members of your child’s educational team, including school specialists, pediatricians, or other service providers.

Writing

Even students who love reading sometimes need additional support or motivation when it comes to writing. We can provide writing instruction that focuses on the writing process, genre- specific writing, and grammar. We can work to build your student's writing stamina through fun and low-stakes activities that also target essential writing standards.

Kindergarten Readiness

Our teachers plan fun and hands-on activities to develop early literacy skills and help ensure your child is ready for school! This can include explicit instruction in hand-writing and fine-motor skills to improve pencil grip and early letter formation.

Enrichment

Is your child seeking additional challenges in reading and writing? Foster your child's natural curiosity through individual project-based learning opportunities! Enrichment services are tailored to your child's strengths and interests, and incorporate reading and writing skills in fun and challenging ways.

Homeschool Support

We provide supplemental literacy instruction for homeschooled students. We also offer consulting regarding your homeschool reading curriculum and are happy to work together as a team to develop your child's educational plan.
